Each rug begins as a painting, sketched in our NYC studio, inspired by modern art, nature, and haute couture. Skilled artisans in Nepal then hand-knot every piece using fine Tibetan wool, silk, and mohair.

Pile heights, materials, and dimensions are all fully customizable. Every rug is a singular object, made specifically for the space it will inhabit.

Sketched

Imagined, sketched and rendered in New York, our rugs are created for our clients. Our current collections are conversational pieces that evolve with our client’s vision.

Dyed

Silk, wool, and mohair is dyed to perfection using Swiss pigments. Aside from our curated boxes of poms, we can match any ARS your project calls for.

Knotted

In Nepal, skilled artisans tie each knot on the loom. Each rug patiently unveils itself as a work of art, as it is carefully knotted, cut and finished by hand.

the SIERRA PALETTE

When developing this new rug color collection, I began by painting with colors informed by earthy tones found along Pacific beaches, pine forests, and red clay rock formations. Graphic, elegant shapes emerged through the artwork, inspired by Laine + Alliage’s classic design element: Découpage.

To translate the paintings into rugs, I worked with varied pile heights to create depth and dimension, and selected fine Tibetan wool and soft silk to enhance texture and feel. Each piece is then hand-knotted in Nepal, where the designs are carefully brought to life by skilled artisans.

Every rug is hand-knotted in a Nepal atelier, where master artisans translate each painting into yarn, knot by knot. A single rug can take months on the loom.

Tibetan wool, silk, and mohair are sourced locally and dyed to match the colors of the original painting. Pile heights are chosen to give each design its dimension. The final piece is hand-finished and inspected before it leaves the atelier.
