Custom Découpage

Upholstery & Drapery

Découpage is our signature design language characterized as an artful interplay of appliqués. Each piece is thoughtfully conceptualized and hand-sewn in our New York atelier.

We create exclusively by custom order, collaborating with leading designers on exceptional residential and hospitality projects.

Elevate your next project with our Découpage fabrics, designed to bring artistry and texture to chairs, ottomans, benches, headboards, and drapery.

How a textile becomes art.

The process behind our signature Découpage.

1.

Sketched

Every commission begins in conversation. The designer brings the concept and palette. We sketch, refine, and develop the design in our New York atelier.

2.

Fabrics

We source premium materials directly. Designers are welcome to specify their own. We evaluate any COM for its suitability to the Découpage technique.

3.

Sewn

Each shape is cut from the approved sketches. The pieces are sewn, appliquéd, and finished by hand in our New York studio. The composition shines.

Sketched, cut, sewn.

What is Découpage?

  • Découpage means cut-out in French, and Laine + Alliage interprets this by creating a technique in which hand-cut appliqués are sewn to produce unique and beautiful compositions.

  • Our Découpage pieces are all made using a curated selection of the finest fabrics and leathers. We love tonal designs accentuated by materiality, after all, mixing materials is something that Tania carries over from her days working in couture ateliers. For added drama, the graphic element can be augmented by using contrasting colors!

  • Beyond our popular Découpage pillows, we create accent pieces such as our Découpage ottomans and throws, as well as upholstery textiles by the yard. These Découpage textiles are exclusively custom created for headboards, curtains, benches, room dividers, wall tapestries, and more! All Découpage pillows and textiles are handmade by our designers in our NYC atelier.
